English is not everybody's first language on this site, do you know that?

Well, in some board posts on this site, people degrade other people's spelling when there is absolutely no need! Does it ever occur to you the readers, that English just might not be their first language? What does it matter if there are spelling errors, isn't the context obvious? It is to me. Also, if the people who slag off other people's spelling do it to try and create a reaction such as this one, the impression you give is one of arrogance and unnecessary intolerance. Also, by posting such deroggitary comments you are wasting the reader's time.

Get over it, if you can't form a coherent sentence you get made fun of. If I went onto a spanish site and put out horribly constructed sentences like some people on this site do, I'd expected to get made fun of reguardless of weather spanish was a first or second language.

This has come up before under slightly different topics, where, for instance, people have asked users to speak english when they have been talking to each other in another language. The reality is that generally, bad spelling and horrendous grammar appears to be largely used by the english speaking members of the community, grin

Nope I've seen people attack some people on here who don't have spelling problems. They attack people because they want to be big, bad, macho and a bully. I reread these people's topics or posts that are targeted and I don't see any problems with their spelling. The people who attack others just wanna grab attention. It is sad but there is nothing you can do about it. Its not like the cls or admins are gonna put a spell checker on here anytime soon. Besides I can understand what people are saying 99% of the time. But what you gotta understand folks is that many people use abbrivations like ppl for people as a example. Or some other kind of language that means something else like hella for example. People have different ways of saying things to express themselves. So if someone spells something wrong just ask for them to be more clearer.

Even if English is your second language, that is understandable. I have a problem with full grown adults who can't understand how to write.

it is established on the internet that english is the first language of internet communication. I don't know why this is, maybe because it's one of the most spoken languages on the planet?

Well tazz I think it depends how you say it. If they try to correct me in a friendly way, I like it. I take it as a lesson. Of course I agree with you that those who do it in a rude way, should think about how they learn a language which is not their first one.

Oh bluddy hell, what is this site coming to. People are going to criticise others, sometimes unnecessarily, on here, on other sites, in public places or other social settings, it happens, welcome to the real world. It's interesting that out of all the things you could complain about, you choose to complain about criticisms of spellings. Of course people who care more about the spelling than the content are just as sad as those who care enough to get worked up about it. Personally though, I can't be bothered with the hole issue, the only reason I comment on it though is because I can be bothered to alert the hole world that I can't be bothered right?

Wayne I wish oyu would join a site with a language which is not your first one. And then someone would mock themselves about your spelling. Would you like it? Or do you just write on here so harshly because you want to be against what we are saying. I don't think you would like it, because i don't think anyone would. It is fine to correct in a friendly way, but not in a rude way.

And when exactly have you known me correct a spelling in a rude way? never? correct! I could criticise you're spelling of you couldn't I? but I didn't did I? now why would I join a site if I didn't understand the language? that would be a bit stupid wouldn't it? unless I used a language translation tool, but I'd only do that if I had nothing better to do with my time. It just so happens tht I know people who haven't spoke English long but make a big effort to learn and grasp the language and some of these people are my friends, and they wouldn't be if I constantly criticised them about their English. I've already stated my views on the matter so won't do again, obviously you totally missunderstud them, perhaps you'll use a translator or get someone who cares a bit more than I do to explain it. Otherwise, I advise you that reaching quick conclusions whic h aren't well thought out isn't a good idea. Think!

well tazz you are right
I am italian, so of course I do not have a good English pronunciation, yesterday I came to Ventrilo voice chat, and someone (I do not remember who), had fun of my accent. And I was, I am, very shy and yesterday it was my first voice chat experience, in an international multi-user voice chat.
So my reaction was just to day, OK I must go away I am busy, and left
I do not care of this kind of people, I do not even say I am offended, because if someone behaves like this, he/she doesn't deserve any attention from me.

Wayne, there is a difference between not understanding the anguage and making a few, very unimportant spelling mistakes and get laughed at. Or having a foreign accent. Of course you have to understand English and speak it on this site. But you don't have to speak it perfectly. It is fine if you see a mistake I make and correct me, be it Grammar or spelling. But it is the way you do it, that matters.

estoy de acuerdo que no deben hacer broma de la gente quien aprendieron ingles como otra idioma que no fue la principia, pero a la misma vez, como dijo blindguy, de escribir espanol estoy segura que hago errores, y no me importa si las personas me hacen broma.

Brook, that was good, but for those who do not understand Spanish, your point will not be understood. Hehehe.
